This Wednesday I had the pleasure of taking a day off and fishing with two of my fellow guides, Capt. Scott Owens and Capt. Rob Aldridge of www.flyfishgeorgia.com . Our intention was to look for Tarpon but after looking for a few minutes and not seeing much we decided to switch gears and chum up some Sharks to catch on fly.
Scott was first up to bat and he got a nice 40 t0 50 pound Black Tip to the boat almost immediately. Once Scott was done it was my turn on the rod. After a few close calls I was able to hook a nice Spinner Shark in the 100 pound range. It only took about 5 jumps close to the boat before it broke the swivel that attached the bite leader. Scott was still able to get some awesome pictures of the Shark getting some air.
Rob was last at bat just as things started to get a little tougher. The shrimp boats were dumping acres of dead by catch out and the Sharks had the luxury of being picky. After a lot of looks and one lost fish Rob finally sealed the deal on a big Black Tip.
It was an awesome day off that was good for the soul and I look forward to the next time that I get to fish with the fellas on a beautiful weather day.
Keep your eyes peeled for pictures and possibly video to follow.
Life is good!
