Saturday I had 3 great customers fishing out of Hickory Bluff. We were on an inshore trip but they also decided to get in a Whiting tournament being held at Hickory Bluff Marina. We started our day catching some Black Drum and then made a run to get away from the nasty water.
We clawed our way into the back of a small creek where we caught some small Sheepshead, Black Drum, overslot Redfish, and a couple of nice Trout. We fished in this spot for most of the day before heading back out to spend the last couple of hours catching our Whiting for the tournament.
The tournament called for a 10 fish aggregate and there was also a Calcutta for biggest fish. We caught about 35 Whiting and headed in for weigh in. We tied for first place in the Calcutta and we placed second in the aggregate. Not bad for only fishing two hours out of the day for the tournament!
This wasn’t your typical inshore trip but the tournament gave it a fun twist. There was plenty of laughing and joking around as we fought through the Dogfish to get our tournament fish. I even managed to injure my hand from taking so many fish off the hook.
Let’s hope that the weather is decent in the coming days. I’m booked up and will be running trips from St. Simons Island and St. Mary’s Georgia this weekend. I’ll give you the scoop as soon as I can.
Tight lines!
