You’ll hear the locals call them Reef Donkeys. That’s because they pull so hard they might dislocate your shoulders!
These fish eat live baits and fast moving jigs. Usually when you find one AJ, you will find many more in the same place. Although many people choose not to eat Amberjack, they are one of my favorite fish to eat. If you choose to follow the masses, just donate your catch to the captain. My wife will thank you!
On a deep sea charter we don’t just target Amberjack. We fishing for Cobia, Kingfish, Barracuda, Snapper, Grouper, Sea Bass, and a host of other species. We find these fish anywhere from 15 miles offshore all the way to the ledge 75 miles out. We mix in bottom bumping, trolling, and jigging to target a wide variety of offshore fish.
