are Bull Redfish one of his personal favorite fish to catch? it's due
to the size, fight, challenge and integrity of the Georgia Bull

Redfish
Facts: Redfish
usually occur along coastal Georgia waters in a variety of environments.
A three year-old redfish will typically weigh six to eight pounds.
The largest redfish on record weighed just over 94 pounds. When
they are the larger fish like the one below in the photo, they
are called Bull reds or Bull Redfish and most people do not find
the large ones good to eat, and it is illegal in Georgia to keep
a redfish over 23 inches in length.
Mature Redfish spawn near shorelines and breakers along the beaches
of St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island near Brunswick Georgia..
Juvenile redfish typically inhabit bays and coastal marshes around
St. Simons and Jekyll Island until they reach maturity between
3 and 6 years of age. They will readily accept any bait but prefer
Menhaden, Shrimp, Mud Minnows and crabs. Redfish (Red Drum) are
relatives of the Black Drum and both make a croaking sound when
in trouble, and some believe the croaking sound is a mating ritual.

The
most distinguishing mark on the redfish is one large black spot
on the upper part of the tail base. Having multiple spots is not
uncommon for this fish but having no spots is extremely rare.
Scientists believe that the black spot near their tail helps fool
predators into attacking the redfish tail instead of their head,
allowing the redfish to escape.
The
last several seasons for Bull Reds has been STELLAR! Looking forward
to this season.
