This season has certainly been weird as nothing has really been on schedule. The Tripletail showed up a little later than normal and never really were that impressive. The Tarpon fishing was good but never got really good. The Cobia run was a dud. Bull Redfish just sort of “sputtered”. The good news is that the Trout fishing has been strong and should continue to be strong. Thanksgiving week will have some brutal tides but I expect that a few days after the flood tides we should see some of the best Trout fishing of the year. Right now we..
Lately we’ve been running a mixture of trips. Right now it’s full blown vacation season which typically brings a lot of Shark fishing charters, but we’ve also been doing some heavy inshore fishing. First, for those of you that are reading this while considering a guided fishing trip, I’ll explain the best options and what that entails. Inshore fishing – This means that we’ll be fishing primarily in the sounds (you may call them bays) and rivers. We are doing some fishing along the beach line as well to target what are normally considered inshore species. You can expect to..
I’m happy to report that this go ’round there aren’t any substantial negative issues to talk about. The water has been clean (except for when it’s not supposed to be), the weather has been mostly pleasant although a bit hot, and the fish have been cooperative. Inshore Fishing Report Our main focus has been inshore fishing as of late. The Trout bite has been good but don’t expect easy limits like we see in the Fall and Winter months. We’ve been able to find nice mixed bags of Trout, Redfish, Flounder, and Black Drum and the Ladyfish, Blues, and Jacks..
This year the fishing around St. Simons has definitely been toying with our emotions. The tides would get right and the weather would go wild. The weather would get right and the tides would be wrong. The fishing would get good for a few days and then go the other direction. I think we have finally stabilized barring a disastrous weather cycle. Just keep reading to see what’s up! The Inshore Fishing has Been Strong! We have been hoping and praying for clean water and we finally have it. I’m sure there will be days around certain moon phases that..
May Fishing Update and Forecast Last May we had the good fortune of having outstanding weather all month long and it lasted throughout the summer season. This May has been quite different as we’ve battled rain and wind on a weekly basis. There have been some days of good weather, but the lingering effects from the bad weather have left their mark. Just like the weather, the fishing has been on an “on again, off again” cycle. When tides and weather line up we are having some great days catching everything from Trout and Tripletail inshore, to Sharks nearshore, and..
Finally… finally the awkward part of Spring seems to be over. It’s tough every year in the early Spring when you’re trying to figure out what the fish are doing when even they don’t know what they want to do. The water heats up, and then it cools down. The fish are here, now they’re there. It’s enough to make a guide want to throw in the towel. Now that we’ve reached and exceeded the magic number (65 degree water temps) we can get back to business and leave the dock with a great deal more confidence. The Tripletail are..
Now that it’s halfway through April we are getting back into the swing of the busy season. I have to say that I’m glad that March is over as it is one of the toughest months of the year to fish, and this one was exceptionally tough with abnormally low temps. April has brought in uptick in the fishing department but it has been no walk in the park. We’ve dealt with wind, dirty water, and rain almost all month. When the weather has cooperated, though, it has been pretty fun. April Fishing Top Pick – Tripletail Fishing As of..
Well it’s been a long winter and the warmer temps and calmer days seem to have anglers getting their plans made for Spring Break fishing trips. We’ve been fortunate to be busy the last couple of weeks and our time has been spent inshore fishing for Trout and Redfish, Whiting fishing on kids trips, and on the nearshore reefs on the nicer days fishing for Sheepshead. Spring Break Fishing Forecast for St. Simons Island I’ll give you the forecast for the next few weeks before I get into the report. Right now the inshore fishing is really inconsistent. One day..
Complete Tackle List For Inshore and Nearshore Fishing in Georgia Waters If you’re new to fishing in Georgia and you are overwhelmed by all of the tackle choices out there, this blog post is just for you. As a fishing guide here in Georgia, I have to keep my tackle simple but versatile. I can’t keep every lure known to man in my boat and I have to make sure that whatever I use, it’s simple enough for a novice to catch on quickly. For that reason, my tackle box might not be the treasure trove of cool stuff and..
I’ve always really liked fishing in October. You get to experience the beginning of the Fall inshore bite and the warm water species are still around. This makes for a variety of options ranging from Bull Redfish, Trout, and smaller Redfish to Sharks, Tripletail, and the occasional Tarpon. Last month started with a bang but went on to drop some really nasty weather on us towards the end. Usually late September provides some stellar inshore fishing but we were just lucky to get out for a trip here and there. This month you can expect our focus to be on..
